Top 5 Justin Fields Team Fits

January 11, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

justin fields team fits

Here are the top 5 Justin Fields team fits as the Pittsburgh Steelers head to their wild-card showdown in a rivalry matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. According to a report, the Steelers made an important announcement on who will be the starting quarterback in that match all coming down between Fields and veteran signal-caller Russell Wilson. However, it will be up to head coach Mike Tomlin to determine who will be their future leader since both quarterbacks are impending free agents. Wilson will be receiving full-time duties in the first postseason game for the Steelers, but they’re going to get Fields in a special package which could pretty much wrap up who won the quarterback competition.

Earlier this season, the Steelers made a tough decision to elevate Wilson as the starter at 4-2 coming off a loss against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 6. The team probably switched quarterbacks early in the 2024 campaign since Wilson was coming off a calf injury but benching Fields is hurting his confidence. Originally selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears brought him in, setting the single-game regular season record for quarterback rushing yards and became the third NFL quarterback ever to have a 1,000-yard rushing season. However, with the emergence of Caleb Williams, the Bears decided to trade Fields to the Steelers which was a shocker for most in the league.

Despite that, Fields may have to find a new roster since it’s looking like Wilson will be their long-term quarterback with how they’re treating him. Here are his 5 next possible teams.

NFL RUMORS: #Steelers Justin Fields is expected to have multiple teams interested in him if he hits free agency.#Giants #Jets and #Raiders early on are expected to be three of those teams.

Justin Fields Team Fits: Top 5 Teams Who Could Pursue Him

Carolina Panthers

This seems like a no-brainer for the Carolina Panthers since the team is only getting younger this upcoming offseason, After trading Diontae Johnson and Jonathan Mingo, the team is in the position to rebuild again after two disastrous seasons. However, they finally have their faith in quarterback Bryce Young but they need some depth behind him since Andy Dalton will become a free agent and since he’s aging, the Panthers should roll the dice on Justin Fields. Head Coach Dave Canales has always been fast in adjusting the offense if needed so they could start a legitimate quarterback competition in Carolina.

New Orleans Saints

Derek Carr will be back this upcoming 2025 season with General Manager Mickey Loomis not looking to rebuild. Rookie Spencer Rattler got some playing time this past 2024 campaign but hasn’t yet proven he can take on full-time duties. Perhaps, they could sign Fields on a one-year deal to see how he performs if Carr fails to stay healthy again and doesn’t produce what the Saints are looking for.

Baltimore Ravens

Meanwhile, this signing may become shocking if it happens considering the history between Baltimore and Pittsburgh. However, it’s not entirely impossible since Lamar Jackson is one of the best quarterbacks in the league but the depth behind him is concerning. It’s not to say Jackson will get hurt anytime soon but backup Josh Johnson isn’t going to make things easier for the Ravens offense.

San Francisco 49ers

Quarterback Brock Purdy is looking for a new contract this upcoming offseason and he wants to strike a deal sooner rather than later. Head Coach Kyle Shanahan might need to think twice since Purdy is coming off an injury that kept him out of action in the first game of the regular season despite them being out of postseason contention. Justin Fields might be the man to fit in their offensive scheme if they can sign him to see how he performs and let Purdy play one more year before committing to a long-term deal.

New York Jets

The New York Jets plan to move on from Aaron Rodgers after a disaster the past two seasons. This will leave the organization looking for their next quarterback and while Tyrod Taylor is no long-term answer, this might be the perfect opportunity to pursue Justin Fields. It gives him a chance to rebuild with a new team as long as the Jets make the right moves this time.
