Lance’s contract is fully guaranteed for four years and is worth $34.1 million.
The wait is over. He waited as close to the 49ers‘ first official practice as possible, but Trey Lance has finally signed his contract and he can take the practice field Wednesday morning.

Lance’s four-year deal will come with the standard fifth-year club option extended to all first-round picks. The salary for the No. 3 pick is a fully guaranteed $34.1 million. His signing bonus is $22.1 million, and his cap hit for this season is $6.2 million.
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported that Lance declined the off-set language in his fully guaranteed contract. The default language for non-football-related circumstances was already built into Lance’s deal, so it was likely about when Lance received his signing bonus. Thankfully, we can turn the page and this didn’t become a bigger deal than it needed to be.
Kyle Shanahan was adamant that Jimmy Garoppolo will be the starting quarterback, and that makes sense, considering Lance hasn’t had double-digit practices with the team and has only been around since OTAs. Lance will likely remain the backup to start the season, but the longer he would have waited, the more he would have had to play catch-up, which is not something you want to do in an offense where most pundits say it takes a year to learn.
Everyone from San Francisco’s 2021 draft class is officially signed. Let’s go play some football.
