After not being healthy enough to participate in joint practices against the Saints last season, the 49ers are hoping for better fortune against the Broncos this summer.
Now that the San Francisco 49ers schedule has been released, we can do multiple breakdowns that discuss multiple things, such as their rest advantage.
We also have the 49ers preseason schedule…kind of. The Niner Week 1 opponent is the Denver Broncos. That’ll take place sometime between August 7-10 at Levi’s Stadium.
Their Week 2 opponent is the Las Vegas Raiders. That’s a road game taknig place between August 14-18. The preseason finale is a home game against the Los Angeles Chargers that will happen between August 21-24
At the end of March, it was reported that a joint practice with the Broncos was in the works this summer. Last year, the Niners couldn’t participate in the joint practices scheduled against the New Orleans Saints because they were handcuffed by several injuries.
Kyle Shanahan and company hope to get something out of the joint practices against the Broncos this offseason. Now, we know those practices will take place ahead of the Week 1 preseason matchup. Those sessions should be entertaining as Denver is an up and coming team with a notable head coach, but also a few former 49ers players, including Dre Greenlaw, Talanoa Hufanga, and D.J. Jones.
Those couple of practices against a different colored jersey come at a perfect time. The 49ers will have practiced for nearly two weeks against each other. By then, you know what routes the other person is running, the kind of pass-rush moves they’ll use, etc.
It’ll be a nice test for the 49ers wide receiver core. Patrick Surtain is one of the best cornerbacks in the league. Denver added Riley Moss this offseason but also drafted Jahdae Barron in the first round.
Hopefully, depending on where this takes place, Denver will allow media to film, and we can have some fun discussing those practices.
