When was the last time the 49ers beat each of their 2025 opponents?

May 18, 2025 by Niners Nation

NFL: Chicago Bears at San Francisco 49ers

Few wins are from last year, one win dates back to 2001.

The San Francisco 49ers got slapped with a terrible rest differential, two Thursday Night Games, and many other scheduling issues. Now that we have discussed that, it’s time to take a fun trip down memory lane of the last times they beat everyone they will face in 2025.

Seattle Seahawks

Last Win: October 10, 2024
Final Score: 41-23

There was a lot of bad to take from this game, along with the good. We’ll start with the bad: The 49ers’ tendency to let their foot off the gas and atrocious special teams play kept the Seahawks in this game far longer than they should have been. At one point, this was 23-3, then the 49ers’ special teams allowed a kickoff housecall and the Seahawks were right back in it. This was even more annoying when the 49ers’ special teams were good in the first half.

Some terrible officiating gaffes hurt the 49ers as well. It also wouldn’t be a 2024 game without injuries, and Jordan Mason getting dinged up was the spot on your bingo card this night.

Now the good: This was a coming-out party for the rookies. Since the 49ers were on their heels the whole time, they needed someone to step up, and there were several: Renardo Green got a key interception when the Seahawks had momentum in the fourth quarter and could have taken the lead. That pick began moving things back to the 49ers’ way, of course, then you have to hope the defense can clamp down with six minutes left (and as we learned through the season, they couldn’t). So another rookie put a stop to this nonsense: Isaac Guerrendo made a sick dart across the field to put an end to things.

It was great seeing the players taken in the 2024 draft who would have a bright future, but it was also another indication that something was very, very wrong with the 2024 team.

New Orleans Saints

Last Win: November 27, 2022
Final Score: 13-0

The last full game of Jimmy Garoppolo’s career happened here. The 49ers went up against what was considered one of the best defenses in the league and somehow got 13 points in this snoozefest of a game. Well, if you were watching the offense. Defensively, it was another story.

Regardless, the 49ers did get a win and a shutout. Can’t complain about that one.

Arizona Cardinals

Last Win: December 17, 2023
Final Score: 45-29

The Cardinals are a headache, and I’m never really sure why. The 49ers were swept in 2024 by the team, with their first contest being another death-knee to Nick Sorensen as defensive coordinator. The game also showed the 49ers’ identity as a team that couldn’t finish.

But we aren’t here to talk about losses, and we go back to the end of 2023 for the last win—, but it was still a headache; Kyler Murray returned to doing Kyler Murray things in the first half, with even a pick six that didn’t seem too detrimental. The 49ers’ run defense was uninspiring, but the Cardinals’ run defense was bad. It was all over once Brock Purdy and the 49ers’ offense had had enough of playing with their food.

The win secured the NFC West for the 49ers to begin their playoff campaign. The more memorable moment of this was watching the Philadelphia Eagles go Philadelphia Eagles, losing to the Seattle Seahawks, and letting the 49ers get the No. 1 Seed. The 49ers would lock in their seed in Week 17 against the Washington Commanders.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Last Win: November 12, 2023
Final Score: 34-3

Shortly before this game, the 49ers acquired defensive end Chase Young in a trade to take the edge opposite Nick Bosa. That was one of the highlights. No, not seeing them together, just seeing Young put effort in on some plays.

But the main story was Brock Purdy scampering around and completing throws no quarterback has business completing. His first touchdown came from a scramble left, throwing to the right into Brandon Aiyuk’s hands. And that’s not even the top highlight. There was a play where he had a collapsed pocket and still nailed George Kittle deep.

It’s one of those plays that prove why Purdy is the man, and that’s why the 49ers gave him all that money. Oh, and that play was done with only a minute ticked off in the third quarter, there was plenty more fun from there.

And this was in Jacksonville. Yikes!

Los Angeles Rams

Last Win: September 9, 2023
Final Score: 30-23

Much like the Cardinals, the 49ers couldn’t get a win against the Rams in 2024. This was again because they found ways to blow leads. Somehow, despite Kyle Shanahan’s success against Sean McVay (outside of the NFC Championship), some people say McVay was a better coach.

The 49ers’ last win came at the beginning of the 2023 season. Their final game that year was a loss, but that was because they pulled all their starters with the No. 1 seed playoff positioning solidified.

The game’s highlight was Sean McVay’s decision to go conservative despite being down. The game was pretty even until a field goal late in the third quarter, and the Rams were in it until the clock said otherwise. That’s where it got weird; instead of getting aggressive to get the ball back with a two-possession deficit, McVay ran the clock and kicked a field goal to end the game. It certainly screwed the sports betting community, but didn’t make sense on the field because had the Rams gotten more aggressive for the touchdown—or kicked the field goal earlier to have time should they recover the onside kick—they could have made this a total nail biter.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Last Win: November 10, 2024
Final Score: 23-20

Jake Moody certainly has his a moment. The 49ers did about what you’d expect in 2024: got a 10-point lead, broke down, bad special teams play to let the Bucs back in, then Brock Purdy powering up and trying to get the win. There were some bonehead penalties in the mix, too.

There are two things to remember this game for: Ricky Pearsall’s sick touchdown catch and go that would give him his first touchdown of his career, and Jake Moody forgetting he was Jake Moody at the end of the game to kick a field goal as time expired. The 49ers notched a win, and at the time, there was still hope they could right the ship.

Atlanta Falcons

Last Win: December 19, 2021
Final Score: 31-13

I did a FINISH HIM!!! of the Falcons game…but never finished it. Then I got bored today and did a few things. So here it is, 2 weeks late. pic.twitter.com/qgx3IbRd2R

— Patrick Holloway (@patoholloway) January 5, 2022

We go back to 2021 for this one. The 49ers lost to the Falcons in their 2022 game, a game that was their last before acquiring Christian McCaffrey.

2021 was the first year for DeMeco Ryans as defensive coordinator, and while there were a handful of mistakes, the transition to Robert Saleh seemed smooth. Then this game happened and Ryans got put on the map. His defense slaughtered the lot of the Falcons, including a great hit toward the end from Jaquiski Tartt.

Houston Texans

Last Win: January 2, 2022
Final Score: 23-7

One of Trey Lance’s four starts with the 49ers and the only one where he won. If you made a drinking game for the announcers saying, “He just needs to play more football,” the surgeon general was probably all over you.

And Lance didn’t look too awful. Sure there was a lot of work needed, and this was a lackluster Texans team, but he still did “decent”; 16 completions on 23 attempts (69 percent completion) 249 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. 116 for his second start? I’ll take it.

Lance held the fort down while Jimmy Garoppolo nursed some injuries. The 49ers would then face the Los Angeles Rams in the final week to secure a playoff spot.

New York Giants

Last Win: September 9, 2023
Final Score: 30- 12

The first of two Thursday night games for 2023 (the other being the Thanksgiving game against the Seahawks), this was about what you’d expect from a Thursday night game. The 49ers took care of their business, but it had odd moments.

Odd moments like Ronnie Bell actually catching a pass. Not just any pass, a touchdown pass. Yeah, weird things, man.

The lone Giants touchdown in the third quarter, courtesy of the weekly Steve Wilks brain fart where a pass interference call put the Giants in the redzone. With the game at 12-17, you might think the 49ers could blow this.

After the Giants’ touchdown, the 49ers just outmuscled them. Brock Purdy again threw nice dimes, which also helped.

Carolina Panthers

Last Win: 10/9/2022
Final Score: 37-15

Better known as the Christian McCaffrey audition. This would be the last game McCaffrey would play with the Panthers, as he’d be traded to the team he was up against in this game.

As for the game? Well, the Panthers kept it close for a hot minute. The 49ers dusted off Tevin Coleman for this game, and he delivered the final blow that sealed the game. It was pretty much over when he third quarter came to an end.

Cleveland Browns

Last Win: October 7, 2019
Final Score: 31-3

This game made a statement: “The 49ers are back!” Things started with Matt Breida taking off for an 83-yard touchdown with two minutes having not even gone by. If you were a 49ers fan (that’s us), what followed was the most awesome thumping we had seen in years.

The other thing that is memorable here is that this was the first huge game for Nick Bosa. He made Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield miserable all night, something calling back to their rivalry when the latter was at Texas Tech and Bosa was at Ohio State.

Tennessee Titans

Last Win: December 17, 2017
Final Score: 25-23

2017 was not a good season, that is, until the 49ers acquired quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in October. After C.J. Beathard went down in the Seattle game, the 49ers went on a five-game losing streak to close the season. The Titans were the third victim of Garoppolo’s handsomeness, and this revitalized 49ers team.

What was pretty even through the day ended with the Titans kicking a field goal with a minute left. Garoppo. At this point in his career, he showed that a minute was plenty of time to take the 49ers back down the field, ending with a Robbie Gould field goal.

Indianapolis Colts

Last Win: November 25, 2001
Final Score: 40-21

Yup, the last time the 49ers beat the Colts was when Jeff Garcia was on the roster and Steve Mariucci was coaching. Peyton Manning was on the Colts roster if you really want to re-live those days.

So, this game. Things were pretty even in the first and second quarter, but the 49ers managed to get up by six at half, 20-14. In the third quarter, Manning threw a pick-six that put the game at 27-20. The Terrell Owens/Garcia connection hit in the fourth quarter, and the Colts never recovered from the Manning interception.

The win also came in Indianapolis, which is always lovely to see.

The 49ers made the playoffs this year but lost to the Packers (it was the other way around back then, the Packers always beat the 49ers).

Chicago Bears

Last Win: December 8, 2024
Final Score: 38-13

Well, 2024 did give us some high notes. Then again, the Bears were terrible, so it’s what you expected. The Bears never scored until the third quarter when the 49ers were up 24-0. That Bears score didn’t move the needle much since they failed the two-point conversion.

Isaac Guerendo had two touchdowns in the game (good lord), and Brock Purdy put up a 145.4 passer rating. Even 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan had two successful coaches’ challenges and picked up a third (a true rarity).

The Bears had no chance, and the game itself served as a bright spot in what we can call a nightmare season.
