Former Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is calling it quits after 11 seasons in the NFL
Former Las Vegas Raiders Derek Carr was expected to have his third season as a starter for the New Orleans Saints. However, that all changed Saturday morning with Carr deciding to retire from the NFL after 11 seasons.
Carr had a torn labrum in his shoulder that aggravated when he started to prepare for next season. The injury would have required surgery, but after talking with his family, Carr thought it would be better to walk away from the game.
“Upon reflection of prayer, and in discussion with Heather, I’ve decided to retire from the National Football League. For more than 11 years, we have been incredibly blessed, and we are forever grateful and humbled by this experience.
“It’s difficult to find the right words to express our thanks to all the teammates, coaches, management, ownership, team officials and especially the fans who made this journey so special. Your unwavering support has meant the world to us.”
Carr is the all-time passing yards leader for the Raiders franchise, playing nine seasons with the Silver and Black. While there wasn’t any playoff success with Carr as quarterback, he helped lead the team to its only two playoff appearances since 2002. Now, Tyler Shough will get a shot at becoming the starting quarterback for the Saints.
