Big changes in the middle of the defense
One of the biggest non-quarterback, on-field stories of the Las Vegas Raiders 2025 offseason so far has been the major, and kind of unexpected, change at the linebacker position.
The Raiders watched both starters, Robert Spillane (he went to the New England Patriots) and Divine Deablo (Atlanta Falcons), leave the franchise in free agency. The team had indicated they wanted to keep both and it was expected Spillane, a key piece to the defense the past two season, would return.
Yet, after they departed, Las Vegas react by signing veteran Elandon Roberts, from the Pittsburgh Steelers, to replace Spillane and then added former No. 5 overall pick Devin Shite to replace Deablo. Both Roberts and White were inked to one-year deals and are both expected to start.
We recently asked our community members of there were happy with the switches and do they think the Raiders got better at the position this offseason.
The answer? Not so much. In our poll, 61 percent of the voters indicated that they aren’t happy with the moves, while 39 percent think that, yes, the Raiders did get better at linebacker this offseason.
I get the sentiment, especially since Roberts and White were signed to one-year deals. but don’t fret too much. They are both decent starters and the Raiders could add to the position in the draft.
