Raiders hosted LSU star offensive tackle for visit
As the Las Vegas Raiders made the preparations for the upcoming NFL draft, they brought in several players for visits to their Henderson, Nevada headquarters in recent weeks.
The Raiders’ group of pre-draft visitors featured several players they could target in in the first round, where they currently own the No. 6 overall pick. For the most part, the Raiders’ pre-draft visits where spent on players who play positions the team is expected to have early interest in such as running back, wide receiver, cornerback and quarterback.
So, while visits with the likes of running back Ashton Jeanty, cornerback Will Johnson and quarterback Shedeur Sanders make sense was predictable, there was one Raiders’ visit with a top prospect that stood out — the one with LSU tackle Will Campbell.
The tackle position isn’t exactly a spot the Raiders necessarily have a big need at.
They have veteran Kolton Miller at left tackle and second-year player D.J. Glaze at right tackle. Certainly, there are bigger needs for the Silver and Black.
Yet, an argument could be made for taking a tackle early. Miller is entering the final year of his contract and Campbell could play right tackle ahead of Glaze as a rookie.
Also, new Las Vegas general manager John Spytek is n the record for saying how much he loves drafting offensive lineman.
There is a strong chance Campbell can be taken at No. 4 (New England Patriots) or at No. 5 (Jacksonville Jaguars), but if he’s on the board for the Raiders, his visit shows they will consider taking him. Also, there has been buzz the Raiders could take Missouri’s Armand Membou as well, so the tackle position is in play.
