The Las Vegas Raiders are certainly hoping their current regime of general manager John Spytek and head coach Pete Carroll can bring the franchise back to relevance.
The Raiders were in the market for a new head coach after they fired Antonio Pierce. Las Vegas named Pierce the interim head coach for the remainder of the 2023 season after the team fired former head coach Josh McDaniels. Pierce’s first opportunity to man the sidelines was a positive one as he was able to get the players to buy in and get back to playing a more physical brand of football.
Pierce parlayed his interim stint into a permanent position as Las Vegas’ head coach ahead of the 2024 season, initially bringing a lot of excitement and optimism. However, Pierce floundered in his first year on the job, going 4-13 in the 2024 season and suffering some embarrassing losses. Owner Mark Davis swiftly moved on from Pierce, firing him in less than one full calendar year.
While Pierce has yet to join a new team officially, he was seen at a recent Kansas City Chiefs training camp practice, via Harold R. Kuntz of FOX4:

It’s not uncommon for former head coaches to join teams for training camp practices, and it looks like Chiefs head coach Andy Reid wanted to pick Pierce’s brain about the team and what he’s seeing. While Pierce may have failed as the Raiders’ head coach, as a player, he brings plenty of experience and perspective, having been named a Pro Bowler and being a part of the New York Giants team that won Super Bowl XLII.
Pierce, a former linebacker, can offer valuable insights and advice on that end of the field. In the video, he was seen talking to Kansas City defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and the two could very well have been swapping notes or discussing something they saw in practice.
It remains to be seen if Pierce will be back with a team in an official capacity this season, but the Raiders have other things to worry about.
Pete Carroll expects Raiders to win a bunch of games this season
Pete Carroll was brought in to revamp the Raiders’ team culture and improve their on-field success. While there’s a lot of work to do before the start of the 2025 season, Carroll expects the team to win a bunch of games this year.
