Raiders News: Chiefs’ Andy Reid Calls Pete Carroll ‘Heck Of A Football Coach’

October 26, 2025 by Raiders Nation

The Las Vegas Raiders made the splashy hire in the offseason, luring Pete Carroll back into the NFL and making them their new head coach.

Carroll is widely respected around the league after his successful stint with the Seattle Seahawks, so the Raiders were praised when they chose him to lead their team. Carroll brings a youthful energy and enthusiasm for the game that’s rare for a coach his age, though even he admitted he is processing Las Vegas’ slow start to the 2025 season poorly.

The Raiders head coach has even more to process after his team was shut out in Week 7 by their AFC West rivals the Kansas City Chiefs. Las Vegas was blown out 31-0, setting a new low point in what has been a trying season.

Although the Raiders have not looked like the team some thought they could be, Reid still had high praise for Carroll leading up to their matchup via Paolo Songco of Athlon Sports:

“Pete, who we know has done this once or twice, he’s a heck of a football coach,” Reid said of Carroll.

Carroll has the cache of being a Super Bowl winning head coach and it’s clear that Reid has respect for him. Reid is widely considered to be one of the best head coaches in the NFL today, having won three Super Bowls leading Kansas City.

The Raiders’ loss to the Chiefs was hardly surprising given that they were shorthanded offensively. Their top two pass catchers in Brock Bowers and Jakobi Meyers were both ruled out due to injury, leaving Geno Smith and Ashton Jeanty with little room to operate against the Kansas City defense.

To make matters worse, Maxx Crosby was forced out of the game in the second quarter due to an apparent knee injury but that seems to have been precautionary. The more disappointing part of the loss was more so the team’s effort after it fell behind big.

It’s normal for players to drift during games where they’re being blown out, but Carroll needs to demand better from his team. The season is quickly slipping away from the Silver and Black and it feels like Carroll might already be out of answers.

Chargers’ Jim Harbaugh shares thoughts on Pete Carroll

Andy Reid isn’t the only one in the NFL who has major respect for Pete Carroll as Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh shared his own positive thoughts about the Raiders head coach.
