Raiders News: Derek Carr Raves About Reuniting With Davante Adams

June 17, 2022 by Raiders Nation

Davante Adams, Raiders

The biggest move made by the Las Vegas Raiders this offseason was undoubtedly the deal that landed them star wide receiver Davante Adams from the Green Bay Packers. Not only did the Raiders land the player considered by many to be the best receiver in the NFL, but it also reunited him with college teammate and close friend, Raiders quarterback Derek Carr.

Of course, neither Carr nor Adams are the same players they were back in 2013 at Fresno State. Additionally, both are entering their first season in a new offensive system brought in by new Raiders coach Josh McDaniels which brings along its own growing pains.

But even within that, Carr said that being back with Adams has been extremely fun for both of them at a recent press conference, via Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk:

“It’s been really fun for us. A lot of inside jokes from college and things like that just came back just like this on the practice field,” Carr said, snapping his fingers in his Tuesday press conference. “And we’re learning each other again as well. We’re both in a new system. It’s not really a system that we’ve been in before, so we’re both learning and growing through that. Like, ‘Hey, I’m going to do it like this next time.’ So we’ve had some fun plays.”

The relationship between Carr and Adams will go a long way toward their success in this upcoming season, as the Raiders’ offense has the potential to be one of the best in the entire league. Plugging in Adams alongside Darren Waller and Hunter Renfrow in a new offensive system isn’t easy, but the relationship between the new receiver and Carr makes the issues much easier.

It will be a long process, without a doubt, but Carr reiterated how important camaraderie is between them and how excited he is about their progress.

“The relationship part of it is the easiest part because what we’re both saying to each other, we both understand each other. And we’re getting better. That part’s exciting,” Carr said. “But, again, him and I, we have a long way to go, just like everyone else. We’re learning, we’re getting better, and hopefully put a good product out there when it’s time to take the field.

“But it’s just been fun to have my friend back.”
