Raiders News: Former Coach Antonio Pierce Bold Take On Franchise’s Future

December 25, 2025 by Raiders Nation

Antonio Pierce, Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders have been one of the worst teams in the NFL over the past couple of decades. The franchise hasn’t won a playoff game since their Super Bowl run in 2002 and has made just two playoff appearances over that timeframe. That won’t end this season as the team has already been eliminated from playoff contention with their 2-9 start and has fired offensive coordinator Chip Kelly.

There has also been a lack of continuity at the head coach position over the past few years. Neither Josh McDaniels nor Antonio Pierce lasted two full seasons, and questions are already swirling around Pete Carroll in his first year at the helm.

The franchise has spoken regularly about wanting to return to its past glory, but it appears that little progress is being made. And Pierce doesn’t have much confidence in these issues being fixed anytime soon, as he suggested it might take decades for the Raiders to turn this around, via NFL on CBS:

“They might need decades to fix this bad boy. I’m just saying. One and done, one and done, one and done. Is there another coach gone? Another coordinator? Listen, there’s gonna be something I talk about a little later where everybody’s pointing fingers. But at some point, point there and the thumb points back.”

It is possible that some hard feelings towards the franchise still linger with Pierce. Decades might be a bit of an exaggeration, but he isn’t wrong in pointing out the constant changes at head coach being an overall detriment to this team, and at some point, the higher-ups should be taking some of the blame as well.

The Raiders aren’t without any talent as Maxx Crosby remains one of the premier defensive players in all of football right now, while tight end Brock Bowers and running back Ashton Jeanty look to be two legit building blocks on the offensive end.

But this team still needs a lot of work in order to compete with the best in the NFL, and right now, they just aren’t close to that level. And if they don’t figure things out soon, Pierce could very well be right in that this franchise could still be struggling for many, many years to come.

Raiders targeting a quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft?

The first thing the Raiders have to do is find their franchise quarterback, as you just can’t win in this league without great play from that position. The Raiders haven’t gotten that, so it makes sense that the team could be looking to draft a QB at the top of the 2026 NFL Draft.
