Raiders News: GM John Spytek Plans To Use Tom Brady As ‘Sounding Board’

March 17, 2025 by Raiders Nation

Tom Brady, Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders are beginning a new era under a new regime. Minority owner Tom Brady has reportedly taken on a hands-on role and playing a big part in the hiring of new head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Spytek.

The ultimate goal of course is for the franchise to return amongst the NFL’s elite teams, get back to the postseason and, eventually, win a Super Bowl. A lot of work will have to go into achieving that as the Raiders remain far away at the moment, but this new regime is all on the same page when it comes to that.

Exactly what Brady’s role is when it comes to the Raiders remains a bit unclear, even as it has been reported that he has a lot of power within the organization right now. At the very least, Spytek revealed that he will definitely be going to Brady to get his opinion on certain things, via Liam McKeone of Sports Illustrated:

“I was saying the other day, I would be a special kind of idiot if I didn’t use Tom as a sounding board for certain places,” Spytek said.

Brady undoubtedly has his areas of expertise and he and Spytek have a long history together so the trust is there. The two were teammates at the University of Michigan back in 1999 and Spytek was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers director of player personnel when the team signed Brady so they have experienced great success, winning a Super Bowl in 2021.

But getting the Raiders to that level is a different challenge in itself and there is a lot of work that must be done to make that happen. The best organizations are ones that have synergy from the top down and that seems to be the case for this new regime. It will now be a matter of making those right moves for the Raiders to rise back to the top of the NFL.

Raiders met with QB Shedeur Sanders at NFL Scouting Combine

When it comes to the roster itself, the biggest hole for the Raiders is clearly at the quarterback position and that is something Brady, Spytek and Carroll know must be addressed. And the team could do so through the draft with Colorado star QB Shedeur Sanders being a prime target.

The two sides have long been linked together and the Raiders met with Sanders at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. Sanders confirmed the meeting while also adding that if the franchise wants him to come to Las Vegas for a visit he will be there.
