Raiders News: James Jones Calls Out Ashton Jeanty For Performance Against Eagles

December 23, 2025 by Raiders Nation

Ashton Jeanty, Raiders

The 2025 season continues to spiral out of control for the Las Vegas Raiders as the team hit a new low point in Week 15.

The Raiders were shut out 31-0 by the Philadelphia Eagles, a stark reminder of just how far the team is away from competing for a playoff spot. With Geno Smith nursing a shoulder injury, Las Vegas rolled out Kenny Pickett to start against his former team. Pickett had no shot against the Philadelphia defense, and he wound up with a paltry 64 passing yards and one interception.

Ashton Jeanty had no luck of his own as he took nine carries for 35 yards while adding four receptions for just seven yards. It’s been a quiet rookie season for Jeanty as he and the offense have failed to find any sort of cohesion or chemistry on the field.

Former wideout James Jones was a bit critical of Jeanty’s performance against Philadelphia, pointing out that he needed to make a splash play to jumpstart Las Vegas’ offense via Raiders Postgame Live as transcribed by Austin Boyd of Heavy.com:

“Out of those nine attempts, it was probably five one-on-ones … you gotta make them miss at least half of those,” Jones said during the “Raiders Postgame Live.” “And if you make them miss half of those, then that’s an explosive run. I don’t know if he’s not in rhythm, not in a groove, doesn’t know the offensive line as well, but when all else fails, with you being drafted No. 6 overall … we have yet to see him break those tackles in between the tackle.”

The best running backs in the league can make multiple defenders miss and get out into the open field, but there hasn’t been a lot of that for Jeanty this year. The Raiders’ offensive line grades out as one of the worst units in the league, so that certainly doesn’t help Jeanty’s ability to pick up rushing yards.

Without a running game to keep defenses honest, Las Vegas will continue to find itself in obvious passing-down situations. It would be good to see the Raiders find a way to get Jeanty going, but at this point, they’re likely better off losing games for draft positioning.

Geno Smith not thinking about future with Raiders amidst rough season

Geno Smith’s poor play during the 2025 season exacerbates the need for the Raiders to find a long-term solution at quarterback. While most expect Smith to be gone from Las Vegas after this season, the veteran admitted he’s not thinking about his future.
