With the Las Vegas Raiders out of playoff contention, much of the focus for many has now turned to what the franchise will do this offseason in order to improve the roster. As always, the quarterback position remains a top priority, and there have been a lot of rumblings surrounding the Raiders and University of Colorado star QB Shedeur Sanders.
Sanders has enjoyed an outstanding season at Colorado, throwing for 3,926 yards and 35 touchdowns, both single-season records for the Buffaloes, while leading them to a 9-3 record. Sanders seems like a natural fit for the Raiders, considering their need for the position, and apparently, their desire to bring him in is not a secret around the NFL.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Hondo Carpenter on the latest episode of the Las Vegas Raiders Insider Podcast, the general consensus around the league is that Sanders is the Raiders’ target in the 2025 NFL Draft:
“I think the general consensus in the National Football League and everywhere else is if [the Raiders] can maneuver to get Shedeur, it is going to be Shedeur. I’m not yet ready to call that pick, but I think I’m as confident in a November Pre-Thanksgiving pick as ever, that that’s going to be the guy they’re going after.”
This has been rumored about for multiple seasons, and generally, where there is smoke, there is fire. Sanders is clearly one of the best quarterbacks in college football and would conceivably provide the Raiders with not only the player they need under center but also a potential face of the franchise. There are certainly other areas the team needs to improve this offseason, but the franchise will never be a contender without the quarterback position solidified.
The question now is whether the Raiders will be in a position to draft Sanders without having to make a deal. The team is currently tied for the worst record with the Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Giants at 2-10. The Jaguars may not target a QB, but the Giants will definitely be in the market, as could the New York Jets, Carolina Panthers and Tennessee Titans, who are all only one game behind at 3-9.
The NFL is all about the quarterback position in this day and age, and the Raiders simply have to find their guy. From the looks of it, the franchise has an idea of who they want, it’s simply a matter of making it happen.
Brock Bowers continues history-making rookie season for Raiders
Whether it is Shedeur Sanders, Miami’s Cam Ward, or whoever else the Raiders potentially bring in at quarterback, they will have one of the NFL’s best young weapons as rookie tight end Brock Bowers has been not only great but historically so.
With his performance against the Kansas City Chiefs, Bowers became the first tight end, and just third rookie period, to record 10 catches in at least three different games. The only Raiders player to ever do that in any season of their career is Tim Brown.
Bowers also became the first Raiders player period to record at least 80 receptions in the first 12 games of any season. His 84 receptions through Week 13 lead the entire NFL, not just tight ends, and he is fourth in the NFL with 884 receiving yards, trailing just Ja’Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson and Terry McLaurin.
