With the start of the 2025 regular season just days away, the Las Vegas Raiders are still making some moves around the fringes of their roster. Practice squad signings may not receive much attention, but having the right players in the building could be crucial if injuries start to affect the roster.
As such, the Raiders announced that they have signed a pair of veterans to the practice squad, bringing in quarterback Jeff Driskell and linebacker Brian Asamoah II while releasing linebacker Matt Jones and safety Trey Taylor:

Driskel is a long-time NFL veteran, having been a sixth-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2016. He has primarily served as a backup throughout his career, but has made 12 starts in his nine NFL seasons with 16 touchdowns and 10 interceptions to his credit. The Raiders will be his ninth NFL team after he spent last season with the Washington Commanders.
Asamoah, on the other hand, is looking to kickstart his career after spending his first three NFL seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. The linebacker was a third-round pick in 2022 but never started a game in Minnesota, totaling just 30 tackles in 46 games during his stint with the Vikings. Perhaps a change of scenery will allow him to reach his potential, and with the Raiders’ linebacking corps arguably being a need, he could get his opportunity.
The primary focus for the Raiders overall is getting the 2025 season started on the right foot with a victory over the New England Patriots in Week 1. It won’t be an easy game, as the Raiders will be on the road to kick off the year. However, with new head coach Pete Carroll in charge and a much-improved offensive unit, the Raiders plan to make a push back to the postseason.
Raiders’ star DE Maxx Crosby says making the playoffs once wasn’t enough
Maxx Crosby is the heart and soul of this Raiders team, a true leader in every sense of the word. Although he has garnered numerous individual accolades and is recognized as one of the best defensive players in the NFL, his primary focus is on helping the Raiders return to the postseason.
Crosby has made one postseason appearance in his career so far, but he has made it clear that one is not enough for him.
