Raiders Sign Safety Jamal Adams, Reuniting Him With Head Coach Pete Carroll

July 25, 2025 by Raiders Nation

Jamal Adams, Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders have made several additions on both sides of the field this offseason as they look to turn the page and enter a new era with Pete Carroll leading the way as head coach. Now, with training camp getting underway, the team is still bringing in some players who could potentially make an impact.

Often, when a coach takes over a new team, he brings in some players who are familiar with his approach, can help with the transition, and are already familiar with the system. This was the case on offense with the Raiders trading for QB Geno Smith, who thrived under Carroll with the Seattle Seahawks, and now the Raiders are bringing in someone on defense who can do the same.

According to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk, the Raiders have signed safety Jamal Adams, who played under Carroll in Seattle for four seasons:

The Raiders signed safety Jamal Adams on Tuesday.

It reunites the three-time Pro Bowler with coach Pete Carroll, who coached Adams for four seasons with the Seahawks.

Adams, 29, is entering his ninth season after the Jets made him the sixth overall pick in 2017.

He recently posted a video on social media and said he’s in the best shape of his life.

Adams is looking to get his career back on track after a rough last couple of seasons. The safety has appeared in just 15 games over the three years with the Seahawks, Tennessee Titans and Detroit Lions, but prior to that was one of the best safeties in the NFL. Adams made three straight Pro Bowls from 2018 to 2020 while also being an AP All-Pro selection in each of those years as well.

Even though he is a safety, Adams is known primarily for his hard-hitting and willingness to get in the box; however, he has had issues with coverage at times. At this stage in his career, he is likely more of a linebacker/safety hybrid who would be more effective playing closer to the line of scrimmage.

Adams has totaled 501 tackles, 50 tackles for loss, 21.5 sacks and four interceptions in his career and now back with Carroll on the Raiders hopes to show he still has plenty left in the tank to contribute.

Pete Carroll expects the Raiders to win ‘a bunch of games’ this season

In his first season as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, Pete Carroll is looking to change the entire trajectory and mindset within the organization. And he isn’t looking for a slow build as Carroll expects the Raiders to win ‘a bunch of games’ this season.
