He wins our poll for 2021 Breakout Raiders’ player
Bryan Edwards has been a summer star since he was drafted in the third round last year.
Edwards had a great camp as a rookie. However, injuries and a lack of production slowed down the South Carolina product’s rookie season.
Yet, Edwards has shined again this training camp and fans are expecting big things. Edwards won a recent poll asking people who they think will be the Las Vegas Raiders’ 2021 breakout player.
Edwards received 40 percent of the 773 votes cast in the six-candidate poll. That’s a big win.
My choice would be tight end Foster Moreau, who came in third place with 16 percent of the vote. Receiver Henry Ruggs was second with 32 percent. I went with Moreau because I think the third-year player is going to be used a lot in double-tight end sets with star Darren Waller. The LSU product may be in for a big season. I’m not alone, either.
6. Foster Moreau, TE, @Raiders
5. Rondale Moore, WR, @AZCardinals https://t.co/6C89FcfAU9— Peter Schrager (@PSchrags) August 18, 2021
Still, I get the Edwards’ choice. He’s enticing and looks like a prototype NFL star receiver.
In fact, the Edwards hype machine has been a training-camp long entity within the Raiders’ organization. Earlier in camp, Raiders’ coach Jon Gruden compared Edwards to Terrell Owens. Las Vegas quarterback Derek Carr compared Edwards to Davante Adams, Carr’s college teammate at Fresno Sate and a team reporter compared him to Randy Moss.
Ok, then.
There is no doubt, within and outside of the organization, expectations for Edwards in 2021 are extremely high. Now, it’s up to him to deliver.
