JJ Pegues’s character caught the of Las Vegas Raiders general manager John Spytek during his top 30 visit
The Las Vegas Raiders completed their draft last Saturday, and the franchise felt they added depth at a position of need. John Spytek worked their draft to help them select 11 players to help fill out their roster for the new-look Raiders.
One player with upside is defensive tackle J.J. Pegues, out of Mississippi. Pegues was the Raiders’ first selection in the sixth round and joins Tonka Hemingway as players who can contribute to the defense line in the future.
Pegues played all over the defensive line for Ole Miss, recording 31 pressures last season. During his top-30 visit with the Raiders at Top Golf, his character stood out to the new regime. In his recent interview with Raiders.com, Spytek talked about the young DT.
“He’s a great kid,” Spytek said. “We brought him in here on a top 30 visit. He was part of our Top Golf night and just a fun, good-natured person who loves to play football.”
The Raiders have a loaded defensive line with the return of Malcom Koonce and Christian Wilkins from injury. A player with the character of Pegues will soak up all the information he can from the veteran players in the trenches. If he can pick up the game quickly, he might be a steal for the Raiders with his potential.
