Orlov spent last season with the Carolina Hurricanes. In 76 games in the regular season, Orlov scored six goals and added 22 assists for a total of 28 points. In the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Orlov recorded four assists in 15 games for the Hurricanes.
Orlov Brings Playoff Experience to His New Team
In his 13-year NHL career, Orlov has accumulated a great deal of playoff experience. The native from Novokuznetsk has played in 107 playoff games. In 2018 with the Washington Capitals, Orlov played in 24 playoff games, helping the Capitals win their first Stanley Cup in franchise history.
This experience Orlov brings to his new team could be beneficial. Orlov can help the lead the team as they navigate their rebuild and work towards being a contender again.
Orlov’s Role
Orlov will likely play on one of the top-two defensive pairs for the Sharks. Furthermore, Orlov is someone who is reliable in the defensive zone but also handles the puck well in the offensive zone. Orlov has recorded at least 20 assists in seasons that have been the standard 82 games.
Furthermore, Orlov has experience on the power play. His ability to move the puck helps set up teammates for scoring chances. Even if Orlov does not show up on the score sheet for a goal or an assist, he still played a role in the goal.
Orlov is also someone who can be relied on the remain in the lineup. Orlov has played in 60 or more games nine times in his 13-year career. It takes a lot for Orlov to not be in the lineup. While he is 33-years old and Father Time may start to catch up to him eventually, there is no immediate reason to fear Orlov’s ability to remain in the lineup.
