Best Dallas Stars by Sweater Number: 91 through 99

August 31, 2024 by Last Word On Hockey

This is the final installment of our series on the Best Dallas Stars by Sweater Number. The Stars have had many influential hockey players. Many were featured in earlier portions of this series, and more are included below. Here is the final group. So, let’s get to it and the best Dallas Stars to wear numbers in the nineties.

The Best of Dallas Stars by Sweater Numbers in the 90s and Number 91 – Tyler Seguin (Forward)

The Dallas Stars have had two No. 91s in their history: Brad Richards and Tyler Seguin. While Richards had a tremendous career, the nod goes to Seguin. Seguin, who was acquired via trade on July 4, 2013, has had a massive impact on the franchise. Seguin has spent the last 11 seasons in Dallas, quickly climbing the franchise’s record charts. As he enters another year at age 32, he ranks among the franchise’s top ten in career games, goals, assists, and points. He has finished in the top ten in goals league-wide in four seasons, the top ten in the NHL in points during two seasons, and led the league in hat tricks during the 2013-14 season. He also has five more All-Star appearances than Richards with plenty of hockey left to play in his career.

#92 – Vladislav Namestnikov (Forward)

Namestnikov is the only No. 92 in Stars history. He was traded from Detroit to Dallas during the 2021-22 season for a fourth-round draft pick. The Russian centre played in just 15 games for Dallas before returning to the Tampa Bay Lightning, with whom he began his NHL career, and is now a member of the Winnipeg Jets. At 31 years old, Namestnikov has had a solid professional career with 298 points in 708 games. He also led the NHL in short-handed goals during the 2019-20 season.

#95 – Matt Duchene (Forward)

Duchene signed with Dallas last summer and quickly became a trusted veteran in the locker room and on the ice. His presence on the team’s second line allowed for a great mix of experience and up-and-coming youth throughout a lineup that seemed to become deeper each game. Duchene returns to Dallas this season, earning another one-year deal after putting up 65 points with 25 goals in his first year with the club. The two-time All-Star is the first and only player to wear No. 95 for the Stars.

#96 – Fabian Brunnstrom (Forward)

The Stars signed Brunnstrom as a free agent from Sweden in 2008, and he spent two of his three NHL seasons in Dallas. He scored 17 goals and had 29 points in his first season. However, a shoulder injury landed him on injured reserve early the next season, and his NHL career never recovered.  He spent his final NHL season with Detroit in 2011-12, appearing in five games with an assist before returning to play in Sweden. His game had promise, but injuries left his NHL career as a big “What Could Have Been.”

#97 – Never Been Worn

#98 – Brian Lawton (Forward)

The number 98 is another one-time occurrence for the Stars. Forward Brian Lawton wore the sweater for the Minnesota North Stars in 1984 and 1985. Like most others, Lawton eventually switched numbers, but he was incredibly productive during his time in Minnesota. He spent five years with the team, tallying 162 points (71 goals and 91 assists) in 303 games.

Lawton went on to play nine years in the NHL, eventually joining the San Jose Sharks, Hartford Whalers (now the Carolina Hurricanes), New York Rangers, Boston Bruins, and Quebec Nordiques (now the Colorado Avalanche). He finished his career with 266 points in 483 games.
