Best Philadelphia Flyers by Sweater Number: 51-60

August 27, 2024 by Last Word On Hockey

We are back with part six of our series, getting to some more of the forgettable sweater numbers in Philadelphia Flyers history. Although there are great players that are following, there are many that are rather more forgettable. So, without further ado, let’s jump into part six of the Philadelphia Flyers jersey number series!

The Best of the Philadelphia Flyers with Jersey Numbers 51 through 60

51. Valtteri Filppula

Filppula is the only choice for this spot on the list. The only other mentionable name would be Patrick Sharp. However, Sharp only wore it for his first game. Filppula, on the other hand, appeared in 101 games while with the Flyers, wearing 51. In those games, he tallied a decent enough 41 points (16 goals, 25 assists).

52. Todd Fedoruk

This is another number that wasn’t worn for a ton of games by any player. Despite Nick Cousins wearing this number for 53 games, Fedoruk gets the nod on the list. He only wore it for ten games before switching to 29. While wearing it, he produced a memorable knockout of the Penguins’ Matthew Barnaby, giving him a slight edge here.

53. Shayne Gostisbehere

Ghost came onto the scene quickly while with the Flyers. Two years after winning a national championship at Union College, Ghost was called up to the Flyers. He had a dazzling rookie season, putting up 46 points (17 goals, 29 assists) in 64 games while finishing second in Calder Trophy voting. He played at a high level for the Flyers for about two more seasons before his decline, leading to his eventual trade.

54. Oskar Lindblom

Lindblom wore 54 for just a mere 27 games. He eventually made the change to number 23 but started his career wearing 54. Lindblom was a player to watch on the Flyers. He was on the verge of a breakout season before his season was cut short. He was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma, an extremely rare form of Bone Cancer. However, when he was on the ice he was a solid player for the Flyers. In 263 games with Philly, he tallied 97 points (50 goals, 47 assists).

55. Chris Gratton

Gratton reached the 60-point mark in his first season with Philadelphia. He appeared in every game during that 1997-98 season, putting up 62 points (22 goals, 40 assists). He changed to number 77 after his first season as a Flyer. That season he didn’t perform well at all and ended up being traded to Tampa after just 26 games.

56. Claude Giroux (Again)

The number Giroux started with, but wasn’t known for. We already know how great of a player he was, as it was addressed in part three of this list. However, for the two games Giroux appeared in, way back in February of 2008, he wore the number 56.

58. Taylor Leier

Leier had a brief stint with the Flyers, just 55 games to be exact. In those games, he tallied only seven points, very little production while in Philly. On the other hand, as is a common theme here, there aren’t many players to wear this number. As crazy as it sounds, his tenure with the Flyers was the best of any to wear number 58, earning his spot on the list.

59. Mark Friedman

Friedman was one of only two players to wear 59 on his jersey in Philadelphia Flyers history. Although he wasn’t very good while on the squad, he gets the nod on this list. It is likely that once Flyers prospect Oliver Bonk gets called up, he will surpass him.

60. Nate Raduns

Raduns was the only player to ever wear this number, earning him the spot on this list. He only played in one game as a Flyer, it was a 4-1 loss to Ottawa.
