Canucks Trade Veteran Defenceman to Dallas

March 4, 2026 by Last Word On Hockey

The Vancouver Canucks have traded one of their veteran defenceman, Tyler Myers, to Dallas Stars. In return, the Canucks are getting a second-round pick in 2027 and a fourth-round selection in 2029. The Canucks are retaining half of his salary for this season and next, which comes out to $1.5 million per season.

As a veteran and a leader in the Canucks locker room, teams have been calling the Canucks for a while, and Myers will head to Stars. The Canucks had held him out of the lineup for roster management reasons prior to this trade.

Details: Tyler Myers to Dallas for a 2nd Rd pick in ’27 and a 4th RD pick in ’29.
Plus Vancouver is retaining 50 percent on remainder of Myers contract which makes him a $1.5-million player this year and next. https://t.co/8nR6S37U4f

The Vancouver Canucks Finalize Myers Trade

Tyler Myers has one goal and seven assists on the season, with eight points in 57 games this season. In his career, he has played in 1,123 games, with 100 goals and 303 assists for 403 points. Myers first signed in Vancouver on July 1, 2019, and was re-signed on June 27, 2024, on a three-year deal worth $3 million per season. That means his contract will expire in the summer of 2027.

This was a shocking development, as every indication was that Myers did not want to leave Vancouver this season. However, a business is a business, and he waived his no-move-clause to facilitate this trade. It was also a surprise to see Myers depart from a rebuilding team that could use a seasoned veteran or two, especially on defence.

What It Means

For the Stars, they look to bolster their blue line with another right-shot defenceman. Myers is a 6-foot-8 defenceman who can use his size to his advantage. He also has a good set of hands, combined with his large stature. He certainly has been on the decline defensively as he has aged, but considering his contract, he brings enough to the table as a second or third-pair defenceman.

This should mark one of many trades to come for the Vancouver Canucks. Stay tuned for more as we approach the trade deadline.
