Jabber Jaws: Zetterlund happy to play with Hertl

Kevin Labanc is back on the ice at practice this morning. ICYMI, he and his wife welcomed Eric Milan Labanc into the world on Feb. 27.

Without Labanc, Timo Meier and (now Anaheim Ducks defenseman) Scott Harrington in the lineup, the San Jose Sharks fell to the Montreal Canadiens 3-1 last night. But we like silver linings here, so allow me to share the current Tank for Bedard standings.

Don’t look now, but San Jose is just two points out from the 32nd spot in the NHL.

Sheng Peng had a great take on it all last night.

As for word from the lockerroom, Fabian Zetterlund is happy to join the Sharks, while Head Coach David Quinn isn’t happy with Mikey Eyssimont.

Zetterlund on Playing with Tomas Hertl

“A couple of good places out there, you know? I think we can build the chemistry long term, you know, so I’m looking forward to play with him.”

Zetterlund on Trade to the Sharks

“I saw the call from the GM and the Devils and kind of knew right away, then, I got traded, so, I was just happy you know, coming here, you know, get to know everyone here and yeah, build…build some new chemistry here. So yeah, I’m really excited.”

Zetterlund on His Game

“I wanted to be strong on the puck. You know, fast forward, kind of powerful, you know, use my shot and my strength and play the puck to the net.”

Quinn on Sharks’ Loss

“I just thought we were too loose. You know, even in the first two periods, I thought we had some chances and had chances to go up two nothing and just couldn’t capitalize and then I just thought we got loose. I thought our reads, our defenseman reads, we’ve given up odd man rushes and just, you know, we just were too loose at the end of the day and you know, you give up a 2-on-0 basically to lose the game, is just, it’s just not really having a conscience and not reading the situation.”

Quinn on Benching Eyssimont for Part of the 2nd Period

“A bad penalty. Too many bad penalties”

Quinn on Zetterlund, Johnsson Debut

“I thought they were effective. I thought they did some good things. You know it’s not easy stepping in and getting off a plane last night come in playing right away so I thought that was a good start for them.”

Quinn on Montreal’s Second Goal

“Again, it’s just too easy. And it’s been a theme for us all year. But you know, it’s just really no reason for that.”

Quinn on the Team’s State of Mind Following Recent Trades

“That could certainly kick in, human nature could kick in, but nobody wants to hear it. Nobody should hear it and nobody should care about it. I mean, you got to continue to perform. You have a responsibility to yourself as a professional, you have a responsibility to teammates, and you have a responsibility to the organization, so there’s a lot of reason to keep playing to win. And we’ve done a pretty good job of that.”

The Sharks play tomorrow night at SAP Center against the St. Louis Blues. Puck drop is 7:30 p.m.
