St. Louis Blues Sign Prospect to Entry-Level Contract

The day St. Louis Blues fans have been waiting for since the team began the retool has arrived. On Friday night, the Blues signed prospect Jimmy Snuggerud to a three-year entry level contract.

The 20-year old will join the Blues on Monday where he will begin practicing with the team. The earliest Snuggerud will play is Tuesday when the Blues host the Detroit Red Wings. Since Snuggerud is joining the Blues, he will not be able to be sent down the American Hockey League for the remainder of the NHL regular season and playoffs.

Snuggerud’s Gophers Career

Snuggerud shocked many last year when he decided to return the University of Minnesota for his junior season. He was named a captain of the Gophers and led the team with 24 goals, 27 assists, and 51 points overall in 40 games. Nationally, he tied for sixth in goals and fifth in points. Furthermore, Snuggerud earned Big Ten First Team All-Star honors for the second consecutive season and was named a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award. Snuggerud ends his time at Minnesota as one of only three players in Gophers history to score 20 or more goals in three consecutive seasons to begin his collegiate career.

Snuggerud also represented the United States at the 2025 U-20 World Junior Championships. He recorded eight points in six tournament games.

Role with the Blues

Snuggerud’s role with the Blues is unclear at this time. The team is in a playoff chase with the whole roster clicking. As a result, it would be hard for head coach Jim Montgomery to remove from someone from the lineup to insert Snuggerud. Snuggerud will definitely play at some point over the Blues final eight games. It is just unclear when.

However, just being on the roster will be beneficial for Snuggerud. The 20-year old will get the opportunity to be part of a playoff chase as well as interact with the players who will be his teammates next season when Snuggerud plays in his first 82-game regular season.

Whats matters is that the Jimmy Snuggerud is beginning in St. Louis.
